Remembering poor Kelly. Kelly came to us from Ireland where she had been left alone in a pen when her previous owner sady died. She was in a very poor state and was nursed by Janet and her girls at Kinnings for weeks. Thanks to their loving attention, Kelly put on weight and was very happy in herself. She moved into a foster home with Di but sadly by that time she had developed a tumour and in the end Kelly went down very quickly and we had to put her to sleep. She did at last know she was loved. RIP my sweet girl.

Many of you will remember Jake who came to us in a dreadful state and was cared for firstly by Janet and her girls at Kinnings and then by his adopted mum, Bev. Bev went to his new home and spent a happy few months being loved and cared for. His back legs sadly gave out and he has now gone to the big kennel - sadly missed by Bev and his girlfriend Elsa who loved him. Run free lovely boy - and thank you to everyone who gave this boy some love in his last few months.

Remembering Spencer who was only with us a short time. Sadly he was very poorly and so thin, he basically had no strength to fight and died having only been with us for three days. He was a lovely boy who's face just seemed to smile. Why he was abandoned I really can't imagine. Run free Spencer, you were loved by us.

My Shadow
My Shadow has been gone six weeks,
But still I miss her so.
Will my heart ache forever?
Will tears ebb their flow?
I know I must move on,
And remembere her without tears,
Will it take forever?
Will it take for years?
In my mind I still see her,
Smell her, touch her too
Will I always see her?
No matter what I do?
Can a broken heart be mended?
Will life ever be the same?
Will I manage not to cry,
If someone says her name?
Some would say she was just a dog
But she was my best friend
She'll always be in my heart
Until my life does end.
I wish I could stop crying
As I pause on a familiar stile
Along a walk we often did,
And think of her and smile.
I know I'm not the only one,
to grieve for a dog that died
All of us could fill a lake
With the tears we've cried.
I was so very proud of her,
She never did anything bad.
It was an honour to know her,
For that my heart is glad.

 A prayer for Arthur.
You have a special place dear Lord
that I know you will always keep.
A special place reserved for dogs
when they quietly fall asleep.
With large and airy kennels,
and a yard for hiding bones,
maybe even a babbling creek,
that chatters over stones.
With wide green fields and flowers
for those who never knew
about running freely under
your sky of perfect blue.
Lord, I know you keep this place
and so to you I pray,
for one very special Schnauzer
who quietly died today.
He once was full of strength and love
and so very, very wise,
but the puppy look he once had,
had long since left his eyes.
He is dearly missed my Lord
by a very good friend of mine,
so speak to Arthur softly please
and give him a warm hello.
He is a special gift to you dear Lord
from Lisa, who loved him so.

Remembering Blossom
Blossom came to us from the pound and was with us for only two short weeks. She was quite poorly when she arrrived and it was thought that she was merely recovering from kennel cough. Sadly Blossom had an underlying condition which meant she could not swallow her food due to a problem with her oesophagus. Often surgery can help with this condition but the operation has a very low success rate even in healthy dogs and sadly Blossom was only 15kg. It was felt that firstly she would be very unlikely to survive the operation and secondly her quality of life following the operation would be very restricted. After consultation with two independent vets, and with a very heavy heart, the decision was taken that in the interest of her wellbeing Blossom should be put to sleep.
Blossom was only 9 months old and we have no idea why this lovely young girl was in the pound but a BIG, BIG thank you to her foster mum, Diane, who drove to the pound and picked her up and then nursed her throughout the two weeks. Thanks to her, she did know some love before she died. Run free Blossom.

Sadly Eko has passed away. He didn't have long in his new home - only 3 weeks but at least he died knowing he was loved. Thank you Elaine & Mike for taking this boy on and showing him some love in the last weeks of his life. A lovely boy - we will remember you. |
